The fabric is required to make clothes, which is the main element of the garment. The quality of fabric needs to inspect before purchasing or collecting fabric. There are many method or system available for fabric inspection.
If the fabric pass on the Four Point system, the approval of delivery is given to the fabric manufacturing unit of the garment factory.
At the time of Four - Points fabric inspection, penalty points are determined according to the length of defects on the fabric:
Up to 3 inches - 1 point
More than 3 inches to less than 6 inches - 2 points
More than 6 inches to less than 9 inches - 3 points
If it's 9 inches and over 9 inches - 4 points
But, if there find any kind of hole in the fabric, it will calculate on different criteria of four points system,
Penalty Point for Fabric Holes –
Holes less than 1 inch - 2 points
If holes more than 1 inch - 4 points
How many penalties were found in every 100 square feet on the Four Point system, it is calculated by using the following formula that the fabric inspection or failure is done.
Total points obtained in Inspection Fabric Rolls × 36 ×100
Points /100 sq.m. =―――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――
Length of fabric (yard) × total width of cloth (inch)
Due to eliminating the defect, there will be more wastage of fabric and the consumption of fabric will be more in the cutting of garments if the penalty point is higher. As a result, the cost of the garment making will increase and losses will occur of the industry. That is why we have to be careful in weaving/knitting, dyeing that the amount of clothing defect is in the inspection appropriate range.
